What will the New Year bring?

by Barbara | Dec 30, 2012 | An Aside, Found Objects, Inspiration, One-of-a-Kind

Who knows?  Frankly, the idea of being able to see into the future without the ability to change it is a frightening proposition.  I don’t put much faith in foretelling.  Nor do I believe the cracks in one’s hand can predict how long he or she will live....

Santa was extremely generous this year…

by Barbara | Dec 27, 2012 | An Aside, Beading, Beads and Materials, Handmade, Inspiration, One-of-a-Kind, Seed Beads, Techniques

I must admit that my Xmas list was a bit long.  Some items were frivolous, fun things that I wouldn’t buy for myself, but are so very nice to have.  Other items were what I consider to be necessities such as this selection of Delica beads – my stockpile of...

As Santa said…

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

The finished prototype…

This beaded insert for my brass bangle definitely had a mind of its own!  Although it serves as a prototype for an insert in the channel of a brass mesh bangle, there are many things I’d change in the design.  The base would be composed of more rows of beads...

This is how it starts…

by Barbara | Dec 18, 2012 | An Aside, Art to Wear, Beading, Beads and Materials, Designer Patterns, Handmade, Inspiration, Materials and Supplies, One-of-a-Kind, Seed Beads

When I contemplate a new design, whether it be a piece crafted in metal, polymer clay, or beadwork, I usually have a purpose in mind. In this instance, I happened to have on hand a brass mesh bangle with rolled edges that form a channel. My feeling was that colorful...

It's no wonder that…

by Barbara | Dec 15, 2012 | Beading, Beads and Materials, Handmade, Jewelry kits, Materials and Supplies, One-of-a-Kind, Seed Beads

Beading kits are expensive, especially if they contain beads from Japan.  Many kits, my own designer beading kits included, are priced in excess of $100.  But when you realize all that goes into the creation of the design and the assembly of a kit, it’s easier...

This was worth the wait!

by Barbara | Dec 12, 2012 | An Aside, Beading, Beads and Materials, Designer Patterns, Inspiration, One-of-a-Kind, Seed Beads

I’ve designed and written quite a few beading tutorials, but I must admit that I’m a total novice when it comes to stitching geometric shapes so I’d been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Jean Power’s new book “Geometric Beading”....

Ooooohhhhh…more yummy beads!

by Barbara | Dec 7, 2012 | Art to Wear, Beads and Materials, Components, Handmade, Inspiration, Materials and Supplies, One-of-a-Kind

Gosh, I just couldn’t resist these!  I love the colors!  They are bright, yet they have  an earthy undertone, which imparts a such richness.  They look ancient as if they were found on an archeological dig…I really have no idea how old they are!  These...

One can never have too many beads!

by Barbara | Dec 7, 2012 | Art to Wear, Beads and Materials, Handmade, Inspiration, Materials and Supplies, One-of-a-Kind

Like most of you at this time of year, I’ve been shopping for holiday gifts to give.  While perusing various shops, I happened upon this tempting collection.  I wasn’t really looking for more beads, but this Moroccan Picasso mix of faceted roller, spaghetti, and...

An eternity…

by Barbara | Dec 4, 2012 | Art to Wear, Beading, Beads and Materials, One-of-a-Kind, Seed Beads

At least that’s how long it seemed to take to stitch this endless string of triangles.  Admittedly, I am not a speed beader, and with my short attention span, it took quite a bit of patience and fortitude to complete this piece.  It was also my first foray into...

Jewelry is my passion! I create and specialize in one-of-a-kind art jewelry. Each piece is unique and meticulously executed using quality materials. My work is primarily made with sterling silver although pure fine silver, bronze metal clay, and polymer clay, as well as resins are sometimes uses. Precious and semi-precious gemstones, vintage glass, and lampworked beads add rich embellishment to the jewelry I create. Carved bone, found objects, and other non-traditional materials are often added to my designs as accents. I also find bead weaving fascinating and enjoy designing new creations and writing beading and jewelry-making tutorials. Creating one-of-a-kind pieces keeps my work fresh, allowing new ideas to burst forth. I hope you will enjoy perusing the photos of my work as much as I enjoyed creating the pieces! In my BarbaraBriggsDesigns.Etsy.com shop you will find my designer beading/jewelry kits, patterns, components, supplies, and occasionally finished works. Enjoy!
