Amazing what you can do with things that didn’t quite turn out as planned. I hadn’t used my hydraulic press in some time and I forgot how much force a 20-ton press expends. My copper heart was pressed in a ½” thick die just a bit too much resulting in a lengthwise split smack down the center! Well, when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. With the addition of polymer clay, Faux Bone™, rivets, silver wire, and bronze sheet metal, I salvaged this piece and created a brooch. A happy accident indeed! It turned out to be far more interesting than the original design I had in mind!
Love the outcome.
Thank you, Alicia!
Serendipity is a wonderful thing isn’t it? Now can you make a sort-of sister item? Repeat the process in another design? But the “broken and mended heart” is PERFECT.
Most likely any dome-shaped piece will split in the center given enough force in a die. I could see the theme of a crack in a wall working well!
