Today is the last date for submitting projects for teaching at the 2011 Bead and Button Show. I thought long and hard about whether or not I wanted to apply and finally came to the conclusion that teaching is a very stressful proposition. Getting projects together for applying is just the tip of the iceberg. If your projects are accepted, then there is all the preparation that goes in the teaching of the classes – putting together numberous kits which entails counting out or weighing hundreds of beads, crystals, ect., and getting needles and thread assembled. Printing out instructions and materials lists. And once in class, having to be “on” for numerous hours instructing up to twenty-five students. From my experience of being an attendee at the show, I find that I get very little sleep. I’m always so revved up with all the creativity going on, the availability of new materials, tools, and supplies that I just can’t relax enough to drift off into a deep, peaceful night of slumber. I doubt I would sleep at all if I were fretting about all the ambiguities that could arise in teaching the next day! I’m to a point in my life where I’d like to eliminate as much stress from my life as possible rather than add to it. I think for now, I’ll just keep designing new pieces, offering jewelry kits for sale, and taking time to smell the roses!
