are always tremendous fun and the class I took from her at Bead&Button was no exception. She is a blast! The class was titled "Non-Traditional Forms in Wire: Bird's Nest" and I knew we'd be doing some very interesting things with metal. She gave a project demonstration and then we were allowed free rein to create our own interpretation. Using bronze wire, bronze bezels, and half of a quail egg-shell, I made this pendant. I had brought various beads and a fine silver cast twig that I had made to embellish the pendant. The decorative bezel slides up the bronze wire sides to reveal a clutch of pearls and an oval turquoise cabochon captured in resin inside the egg-shell. I'm very pleased with the results and I can't tell you how many compliments I've received on this piece! However, I consider this pendant a springboard to more pieces with this theme. Polymer clay can substitute for the quail egg-shell and better still, it is a far more durable material and can made in any color. It can also be carved. How versatile! I could also use epoxy cement for the egg form and impress tiny seed beads into it. Hmmm...the idea machine is churning! I'll show you another piece I made in Susan's class in my next post!
