Resin, polymer clay, and Faux Bone™ are materials that cannot endure the heat of soldering, so I use cold connections when making pieces that contain these materials, I do A LOT of riveting and I actually enjoy it...decorative rivets, flush rivets, tube rivets, you name it. I think it's fun and I must admit that I prefer it to sawing! But sometimes I find that a design looks better if the finished rivet is just a bit more...well finished! This is where a new tool that I just ordered from MetalClayFindings.com comes in. It pierces precise 1/16" holes, then sets and flares the rivet for a perfect finish in no time! The sterling silver heart charm shown here has a center heart that is filled with resin. A simple drilled hole from which to hang the charm would be fine, but I much prefer the more finished look that the brass eyelet rivet gives.
