My Take on the Warped Square…

geometric-warped-square-arrow-drop-earrings
This may be the start of a beautiful friendship…with the warped square! Inspired by Kate McKinnon's book,
"Contemporary Geometric Beadwork"
and Jean Power's
"Geometric Beadwork"
, I started beading geometrically several years ago, but I had never experimented with the warped square. I plan to explore this design extensively...bracelets and necklaces are on the horizon, and more earrings for sure! I have several more riffs in mind for this “wouldn’t lie flat if my life depended on it” wonky square design and can’t wait to play! Aside from Metallic Bronze Delica beads that surround the Swarovski 47SS rivolis, I’ve solely used 15/0 seed beads for this project with the exception of a few teeny 18/0 Charlottes that form an attachment for the sterling silver earwires. They measure 2" in length and 1.25" in width...they are lightweight and have lots of swing and sway! The warped squares are folded in half to create 3-D double-sided arrow-shaped drops. You'll be pleased to know that a tutorial is in the works for this design. I've taken step-by-step photos and  plan to include an alternate earring design. I'll let you know as soon as it is ready. Stay tuned!

I love the mix of bright red and black beads accented with ivory, metallic bronze, silver, and matte pewter. I’ve also discovered these earring are the perfect companion to several of my bracelet and necklace designs! The earrings are absolutely perfect with my "Tibetan Inspired Beaded Rope Necklace".

I can also wear them with my "Safari" cuff.

And they go well with my “Empress Ming” cuff (shown below). Lucky me!

Tutorials and beading kits for the above three designs are available in my Etsy shop!
