I worked on several resin pieces today that I had poured last week. They were throughly cured and just waiting to become art! I thought it might be interesting to explore doing a matte finish rather than the usual high gloss and I’m very pleased with the results. I began by first using 220 grit wet/dry sandpaper, then 400, 600, 800, 1200, and finally 1500 grit sandpaper. The next step was a quick swipe with a muslin buffing wheel at the highest speed. I love the subtle, non-glare finish which feels velvety smooth and is level with the bronze bezel. It has a see-through back making it reversible which means more fashion mileage – I love that! d this piece “Tropical Holiday”. Upon first glance the subject matter appears to be a colorful abstract, but if you look closely, you’ll see orange and yellow tropical birds and at the bottom the number “801” which might refer to the flight number or a cabin on a cruise ship. The other side shows a tiny torn postcard. The pendant is suspended by sterling silver and bronze metal clay “hardware” and hangs from a sterling silver neckring wrapped with bronze wire. I will definitely be saving ticket stubs and other memorabilia to place in future resin pendants. It’s such a great way to recall the places one visits, the people we encounter, and the many wonderful memories made while traveling!
