My beading muse is indeed a fickle lady. She visited me non-stop for several years in a row and then poof!...she took off for parts unknown to be replaced by my metalsmithing muse who now dictates that I use filigree and patterned wire in my work, which I've not used in previous works. She wants me to create a plethora of “Nomadic Style” pieces that are encrusted with gemstones! You can imagine why I find this so exciting...it all feels new to me! I know that she has been conspiring in tandem with my fashion muse...pushing me for sometime to abandon my tailored black and neutral wardrobe. Miss Fashion Muse is responsible for encouraging me to let loose, free up, and return to the “summer of love” and 70’s styles that I wore in my late teens and early 20’s. I’ve listened and for the past eighteen months while staying at home sheltering from Covid, that’s the direction I have moved toward. Free and flowing tops worn with fringed jeans, dresses made of sumptuous, colorful fabric worn with long dangling earrings, stacks of bangles, pendants, and outrageously large rings are now my daily staple! Honestly, I have to say it feels really good! I’ve found the beauty of growing older is that I can dress out of the “norm” and no longer be concerned that others may think it outlandish. If one doesn’t look or feel old why act or dress like an old person? I’m revisiting the music of Joni Mitchell and Crosby, Stills, and Nash and other artists from that time period...it all fits in with my modus operandi these days. I may be living in a time warp moment, but I’m loving it and I’m dancing like no one’s watching!
