again. This time I wanted to make a clasp that plays on the same theme as my flower disk embellishments. To accomplish this (shown top left to right), I first made a prototype clasp in polymer clay, then impressed it in two-part molding compound which becomes flexible and plastic-like in about thirty minutes resulting in a mold that can be used hundreds of times! I rolled out bronze metal clay to a thickness of six playing cards and pressed it into the flexible mold and placed the polymer prototype on top of the bronze clay to even out the clay and add texture to the underside of the clasp. Then releasing both pieces from the mold, I carefully cut out the center and placed the clasp on a curved service to dry. The clasp shown at center bottom has been refined by carving in more precise detail. After a final sanding to smooth out any rough edges, it is ready to be fired in my kiln.
