I Miss…

Tory Hughes. I met her at a craft show in the 1980’s and was immensely impressed with her polymer clay work, which incorporated wire and found objects. Each piece seemed to tell a story. One of my favorite craft books was written by Tory. I received her book, “Polymer; The Chameleon Clay” as a gift thirteen years ago. It is an excellent resource for learning the craft of creating faux ivory, amber, coral, jade, and other gemstones. I have a small collection of polymer clay beads that she sent along with the book showing examples of these techniques. To my delight I recently came across a beautiful hand carved bead that she made some years ago. Pictured above, it measures approximately 4” in length…it is a piece that I treasure. Sadly, we lost this truly gifted artist in 2018, but her legacy lives on in the works she created and the lives she touched.
