I have a true fondness for found objects, especially when it comes to components for use in jewelry making. They are often the item that can make a piece unique and definitely one-of-a-kind. What’s more, I love acquiring found objects! Sometimes they are gifts from friends who know that I will make something interesting from them. Often I find them while rummaging novelty and antique shops, which was the case while I on vacation a few weeks ago. I happened upon a tiny antique shop in the town of Graton, California. There I found a collection of game pieces, old rubber stamps, and some lovely hand-cut crystal dangles from an old chandelier. I loved the way they caught the light and that they were slightly uneven in cut because they were not pressed in molds as they often are in today’s mass manufacturing process. This makes them all the more special to me. I decided they would be ideal focal objects for these earrings. Swaying at the bottom of the earrings are small triangles made of bronze metal clay attached to hammered and bent silver wires. They are shown on one of my my steel and polymer clay sculptural earring stands. You can find the pattern and kit for the earring stand in my Etsy shop. It’s a great way to display earrings that are too nice to hide away in a jewelry box!
