It’s lovely to finally have a few free days to do whatever I please! I spent several days last week making metal clay embellishments and now that I’ve restocked those components in my Etsy shop, I have time to create with my newly acquired Potter USA pancake dies! Because it’s summer and our prairie is in full bloom, this piece reflects the influence flowers have in my present work. My floral-themed “Spanish Rose” brooch is composed of seven flower shapes layered one atop another. Materials used are 24-gauge hammer-textured bronze, copper, and sterling silver, topped with a tiny bronze metal clay flower. The inside petals of the largest flower are colored with Iced Enamels™ protected with a coat of Ice Resin™; the copper flower was patinaed with liver of sulphur, which enhances the texture of the petals. All are cold connected with a single 16-gauge Argentium silver rivet. The pin-stem on the reverse side was created with 19-gauge hard Argentium silver. The brooch measures 44mm in width and 12mm in height. Worn on a sweater, lapel, hat-band, belt, whatever...this brooch adds panache to anything it adorns!
