Beaded pods beads…

are really fun to make.

When traveling they make a great portable project as well!  I’ve stitched these two using right angle weave.  The large bead was made with four sections and the smaller bead has just three sections with the addition of tiny Swarovski crystal pearls nestled in each depression.   Toho seed beads from Japan in size 15/0, 11/0 and 8/0 were used.  These seed beads are quite expensive compared to Czech seed beads, but they are precision cut and the size of each bead is pretty consistent, an important factor for pieces that must be uniform in size and shape.  I use beaded beads in several of my designs – most notably in my mixed media “Potpourri” bracelet design as shown below which features metal clay and polymer clay beads.  Not

only is the beaded bead a nice accent, it also acts as a cover-up for the crimp beads that are used in stringing the bracelet.  The “Potpourri” bracelet kit and pattern are listed in my Etsy shop.   If you’re looking for a novel mixed media project, check it out!
