This is another brooch from my “Antiquities” collection. A tortoise carved in bone is the focal object of the piece. It is accompanied by several of my favorite types of semi-precious gem stones…turquoise and carnelian. I've added beads of ancient quartz and soapstone as well as several trade beads. Sterling and fine silver embellishments accent the heavy hand hammered bronze wire which gives the fibula its structure. This brooch is available at Brio Gallery in Galena, Illinois.
