A joy to read...

Last year the PMC Guild announced it would be disbanding and would cease publishing the journal, Fusion.  Like many other subscribers, I still had a year to go on my membership.   I was disappointed at the time, but later pleasantly surprised to receive an offer of a subscription to Art Jewelry magazine, o

r a hardcover edition of the book, PMC Decade, in compensation for the remainder of my Guild membership.  I already subscribe to Art Jewelry magazine so I gladly requested the latter.  Published in 2006, PMC Decade chronicles works created by artists who were true pioneers forging into the new territory of Precious Metal Clay. An innovative material when introduced in the United States in the early 1990’s, it seemed unbelievable that microscopic particles of fine silver combined with a binder could be worked much like modeling clay and then fired to become a solid piece of fine silver!  Unlike the artists who embraced this new material, my starter kit of PMC, purchased in 1998, sat on the shelf for five years before I finally experimented with it.  I can’t believe I waited so long!  Since then I’ve been working off and on with PMC, Art Clay Silver, and the newer bronze clays, combining these materials with other pieces I’ve created with traditional metalsmithing techniques.  With the advent of metal clay, many instructional books have appeared.  PMC Decade is not a “how to” book.  Rather, it serves as inspiration and pays tribute to those artists who took the plunge early on and created objects of beauty with a material still in infancy.
