A great deal of engineering is required in jewelry making...

especially when moving part are involved. Often mathematical equations are involved - not something I enjoy! When designing a beading pattern, a lot of thought goes into how various beads will work with one another, how many different sized beads will be needed, and if adding mixed media, how those elements can be integrated. For instance, in working the prototype for a bracelet I am in the midst of designing, I've run into a design flaw - in short I have to come up with another idea.  This bracelet was almost completed, the metal clay clasp and beaded toggle were attached, and it was looking good. Then I slipped the toggle through the clasp and realized that the toggle strap was too narrow for the opening in the clasp causing the toggle to slide back and forth inside the clasp which in turn would cause the bracelet to shift on the wearer's wrist.  I'll have to come up with a solution so it's back to the drawing board for me!
